GEORGE TOWN FESTIVAL | DIGITAL WASTE: THE SWEET SMELL OF BURNING
This Solo Exhibition was part of the George Town Festival, which is an annual, month-long celebration of culture, heritage, art, and community.
Madhvee Deb’s solo exhibition Digital Waste: The Sweet Smell of Burning explores the impact of digital overload and our dependency on social media validation. Through layered images and video installations, the series critiques compulsive image-taking, mindless scrolling, and the emotional toll of constant digital engagement. The concept of “burning” symbolizes both the physical discarding of digital clutter and the erosion of real-life connections. This exhibition challenges viewers to reflect on their digital habits and rediscover the value of genuine, offline experiences.
Deb’s Solo Exhibition was part of the George Town Festival, which is an annual, month-long celebration of culture, heritage, art, and community.
Inaugurated in 2010 in honour of George Town’s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the festival transforms the city into a global stage, showcasing world-class performances, installations, and collaborations from international and local artists alike. With over one hundred unique events each year, the festival seeks to create new and vibrant connections between the traditional and the contemporary, the past and the future.
