LANDINGS
"Landings" reflects the culmination of artistic journeys that embrace both beginnings and the challenges faced along the way. It serves as a momentary pause, offering time to reflect and strategise before embarking on new artistic explorations, rather than a final destination.
“Landings,” the title of this year’s M.A. Fine Arts Graduation Exhibition. The selection of the term by the graduates, however, also underscored the importance placed on the journeys that preceded them, and I would add the beginnings. Despite the unknown outcome of such journeys, and the complexion of the different stages, they have persevered through the trials of temporary setbacks and failures to come to some form of resolution with their art practices. The journeys we take with art are never easy, and for the large part, they take us into unknown and unexplored realms, both for oneself and the art community at large, to even proffer a compromise between art and self. The setting of an artificial dateline such as a graduation show is akin to a temporary wayside station to rest and contemplate, to ponder and to strategie our next moves, and never a final destination to
