Safety: China in general is very safe to travel to. It has amazing infrastructure and road networks. Before going to China, I would advise you to Google some common tourist traps and scams. Just like any other tourist destination if you let your guards down, there is a chance you can get pickpocketed or scammed.
My Experience: I have been to China twice my first visit was when my son (then 11 years old) had visited China on an exchange programme. While he was staying with the Chinese family, we decided to take a short holiday in Shanghai and Beijing. Before we left on our excursion we were lucky to experience the hospitality of the Chinese family. I have no word to explain their generosity and helpfulness. I felt surprising similarities between the nuances of Indian and Chinese cultures.
My second visit to China was a business trip. The experience was smooth and educating. The scale of the expo was humbling.
